Cease Being Enslaved
by the Words of Your Mouth

Living Abundantly
According to God's Word Series

Read Time:  12 Minutes

You can be enslaved by the words that you have spoken or be set free. You can look at the facts and circumstances presented to you or look unto God and His Word. My exhortation to you is to confess the Word, although facts may indicate otherwise. Spiritual laws supersede natural laws.

Isaiah 55
:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
    neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
    so are my ways higher than your ways,
    and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Our thoughts are often natural, carnal and influenced by the facts and circumstances of the world, that is how we have been brought up (many of us). But God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts. His thoughts are exalted above our own, they have more authority, more weight. When we think God's thoughts they will supersede all that we have going on in our heads and lives.

Hebrews 10
:38a   Now the just shall live by faith:

Faith in what? Faith (belief) in the Word of God which is of greater authority than the world.

II Corinthians 5
:7  (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

Our world conditioning wants to say, "Oh my, this hurts, I feel like I'm catching a cold, if it's not one thing is another." I tell you what, you keep confessing that it hurts and you will continue to hurt far longer than it should, confess healing. Just as soon as you confess that you are catching a cold you have spoken it into being. If you want to guarantee troubles in your life, keep saying what the adversary wants; "if it's not one thing is another." How devilish!! See how our minds have been world conditioned?

Why do you want to continually glorify satan? That is what you are doing when you confess the sin, sickness, and death that he has put upon you. God wants better for us, we are His ambassadors. Being sick, hurt, depressed, martyred, downtrodden, and broke only glorifies the adversary. Did God not say that by the stripes of Jesus Christ we were healed? Didn't Jesus Christ say that he came so we could have life and have it more abundantly? Didn't Jesus Christ say that God would take care of us like he takes care of the birds of the field; aren't all their needs are supplied? Did God say that if we lack knowledge and wisdom we simply need to ask? Did the power of God heal those that were afflicted and sick for many years? Didn't Paul, when bitten buy a poisonous snake, remain well? Did Jesus Christ control the weather? That which Christ has done we can do too, and greater (we can speak in tongues) because he is in us. That is the Word of God, we must believe it. Stop glorifying the devil.

Matthew 6
:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God,
        and his righteousness;
    and all these things shall be added unto you.
:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow:
        for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.
    Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Seek God first. How many times has God exhorted us to come to Him first, hold His Word in our hearts, let it permeate our minds and souls?

Plant the Seed

What seeds are you sowing? Are you sowing the truth of God's Word or the lies of the world? Jesus Christ said we can have what we say.

Mark 11
:24  Therefore I say unto you,
        What things soever ye desire,
            when ye pray, [form that desire into words]
            believe that ye receive them,
            and ye shall have them.

Are you confessing the problem to God or are you speaking the promise? Are you continually telling God how much debt you have or are you speaking the truth that Christ came that we might have life and have it more abundantly and that God can do exceeding abundantly above all that we could ask or think. Do you keep saying you can't do something because this hurts or that doesn't work right or are you speaking the word to your body and telling it to work well and be strong? When you pray, believe in your heart the promises of God or you'll receive the curses of the world.

The more you confess your inability, not only to God but others as well, the more you confirm the infirmity. Even though the facts say one thing God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Get God's thoughts in your head and in your heart so that no matter the circumstances you have the promise of God there to verbalize instead of the problem. God supplies everything, health, wealth, knowledge, wisdom, joy -- everything!

A great example of a man that believed God for everything is George Mueller. In his book "Delighted in God" he talks about the orphanages he set up and ran in London, England. He had great compassion for the orphans in England and he started a home for them and trusted entirely in God for everything. He believed God for the buildings, clothing, supplies, food and everything that was ever needed for taking care of the orphans in his care. He never asked anyone for anything. He had unwavering faith in God's ability to meet his needs and God always supplied. He recalls that one time they had no food for breakfast, not a morsel. Yet he had all the children get up and get cleaned up and ready for breakfast. He had the tables set and bowls out and all the children at the table ready to eat and then a knock was heard at the door, it was the milk man, his truck had broken down and he needed to get rid of all his product before it spoiled. The children had plenty for breakfast.

When you speak what are you sowing? Are you sowing seeds of doubt, worry and fear? STOP IT! Begin by changing what you speak. For all those of you who are pessimistic you will see the biggest change in your life.

How to Change

II Peter 1
:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,
:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness,
    through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
:4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises:
    that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature,
    having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Grace and peace is multiplied (not just added) unto us through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. How are you going to receive, first of all through the knowledge of God. What has He given? He has given all things that pertain to life and godliness, a true and vital spiritual relationship with God. Also, He has given us exceeding great and precious promises whereby we become partakers of the divine nature. When you put on the Word you escape the corruption that is in the world through lust.

In order to truly see God's divine nature in your life you must condition your heart, that is done by controlling your thoughts which begins with reading and speaking the Word.

Let's perform a little self examination here:

Luke 6
:44 For every tree is known by his own fruit.
    For of thorns men do not gather figs,
    nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good;
    and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil:
    for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

The treasure of your heart is your stored thoughts, that which you believe in the depths of your heart. When it is good you will be bringing forth good fruit. When your thoughts and intents are worldly you will manifest the results satan has organized.

What fruit do you currently bare? Do stop and take a moment and think about it. Now, where do you want to be?

Add God's Word to your life and speech.

Hebrews 12
:12 For the word of God is quick,
        and powerful,
        and sharper than any twoedged sword,
    piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,
    and of the joints and marrow,
    and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Romans 12
:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren,
        by the mercies of God,
    that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice,
        holy, acceptable unto God,
    which is your reasonable service.
:2 And be not conformed to this world:
    but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,
    that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

 Renewing your mind consists of putting the Word in you mind, making a conscious effort to apply it instead of being controlled by the world.

Proverbs 4
:20 My son, attend to my words;
    incline thine ear unto my sayings.
:21 Let them not depart from thine eyes;
    keep them in the midst of thine heart.
:22 For they are life unto those that find them,
    and health to all their flesh.
:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence;
    for out of it are the issues of life.
:24 Put away from thee a froward mouth,
    and perverse lips put far from thee.
:25 Let thine eyes look right on,
    and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
:26 Ponder the path of thy feet,
    and let all thy ways be established.
:27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left:
    remove thy foot from evil.

God's Word is life and health to us. We must attend to His Words, pay attention to His sayings, let them not depart, keep them in the midst of our hearts. Our heart is the innermost part of our being, that which you believe in the depths of your soul. We need to keep or guard our hearts with all diligence for out of it comes the Word or the world. What do you want to manifest? I opt for the more than abundant life.

We also need to put away from us a froward mouth. Froward is defined by crooked and distorted, not physically but it is a figure of speech. Perverse lips mean words that have departed from that which is right. How are we to circumvent perverse lips and a froward mouth? Guard our heart. Use the Word of God as our raw material, the standard. The Word itself is also quality control. It takes effort to establish the habit of putting the Word on daily. Sometimes it takes effort to keep focused on the Word but the more we do it the more it becomes a part of our ways.

II Corinthians 10
:5 Casting down imaginations,
    and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God,
    and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

We are to do this. You can be thinking that your parents have history of diabetes and therefore you are predisposed to getting it or you can confess the Word of God and know that God is bigger than our family history. You can look at the economy and get distraught or believe that Christ came that we might have life and have it more abundantly, no matter the situation.

Ephesians 4
:21 If so be that ye have heard him,
        and have been taught by him,
    as the truth is in Jesus:
:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man,
        which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
:24 And that ye put on the new man,
        which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

What to Think

Philippians 4
:8 Finally, brethren,
    whatsoever things are true,
    whatsoever things are honest,
    whatsoever things are just,
    whatsoever things are pure,
    whatsoever things are lovely,
    whatsoever things are of good report;
    if there be any virtue,
    and if there be any praise,
    think on these things.
:9 Those things, which ye have both learned,
        and received,
        and heard,
        and seen in me,
    do:
    and the God of peace shall be with you.

Philippians is a reproof epistle, reproof for those that have strayed from the doctrine in Ephesians. Philippians deals with the cause of misbehavior, incorrect thinking. To think the Word you must know the Word. That doesn't come by going to church or fellowship once a week, you know that. If during a week you sleep 56 hours and go to church/fellowship 3 hours, you have 109 hours of the world influencing you. If only 2.75% of your waking life is in God's Word what kind of thoughts are you going to have? When I was doing that I wasn't thinking what God would have me think most of the time. I would get drug down by the cares of the world, I ceased to believe that God was my sufficiency and started thinking that it was all up to me to pay the bills and buy the food and I couldn't do it all. I also fell into the trap of glorifying my ills. I would actually brag on my latest cold, I was sicker than anyone and proud of it. All just to get attention.

To get out of that downward spiral, because it will kill you and put you in poverty, you must think God's thoughts and He tells us in Philippians 4:8 & 9 (above) what to think. Here are definitions from the Word of those terms. *

  • True :  open, true to fact, based on knowledge and truth, not false or concealed.
  • Honest :  honorable, dignified, to not be honorable or dignified hurts people and oneself.
  • Just : wise in speech and action. Sometimes our knowledge reveals dishonor and shame, but we shouldn't go around speaking it.  Speak that which conforms itself to the Word.
  • Pure :  synonymous with clean. It is the Word not added to or subtracted from. We need to base our thoughts on the purity of the Word. Do not entertain thoughts that are contrary to the Word.
  • Lovely :  lovely aims toward tenderness and affection, peace towards others, building friendships, amiable, kindly affectioned one to another.
  • Good Report :  that which builds fame.
  • Virtue :  that which makes a person worthy.
  • Praise :  an outward manifestation of approval.

We are not in this alone.  God is always with us helping us to walk with Him more perfectly. We plant the Word in our minds and hearts and God gives the increase.

I Corinthians 3
:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth;
    but God that giveth the increase.
:8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one:
    and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
:9 For we are labourers together with God:
    ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.

The spirit which God has placed within us is the teacher.

I Corinthians 2
:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit:
    for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man,
        save the spirit of man which is in him?
    even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
:12 Now we have received,
        not the spirit of the world,
        but the spirit which is of God;
    that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
:13 Which things also we speak,
        not in the words which man?s wisdom teacheth,
        but which the Holy Ghost teacheth;
    comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God:
        for they are foolishness unto him:
    neither can he know them,
        because they are spiritually discerned.
:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things,
    yet he himself is judged of no man.
:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord,
        that he may instruct him?
    But we have the mind of Christ.

God enlightens us and gives us resources to think the right thoughts.

Ephesians 1
:17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,
        the Father of glory,
    may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened;
    that ye may know what is the hope of his calling,
    and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us?ward who believe,
        according to the working of his mighty power,
:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead,
    and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
:21 Far above all principality,
        and power,
        and might,
        and dominion,
        and every name that is named,
            not only in this world,
            but also in that which is to come:
:22 And hath put all things under his feet,
    and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
:23 Which is his body,
        the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

God has done everything He can to help us walk in His grace and mercy and with the same power that He used to raise Christ from the dead and set him above satan and all the forces of this world. Now it is up to us to control our minds. We must feed it the right stuff. If you are obsessed with the news and the happenings of the world you will not be confessing the promises of God. What will come to pass in your life is what you feed on and, as a natural result, confess.

Matthew 6
:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness;
    and all these things shall be added unto you

Find the scripture in the Word of God that you need to see manifested in your life and speak them. Tell them to God, confess them out loud to yourself and others. Be set free from the world by the words of your mouth.

How are your doing? "Exceeding abundantly above all that I could ask or think". (from Eph 3:20)
